Where Did My Imagination Go?
How Creative Workshops Help You Find It Again
Remember when you were a kid and you could just MAKE?
You didn’t wonder if you were artistic enough. You didn’t worry about whether the colors worked together or if anyone would like what you made. You just created for the joy of creating.
Then life gets busy. Work, family, responsibilities, phones, screens, schedules—and somewhere along the way many of us start saying, “I’m just not creative.”
Oh, I beg to differ!
I don’t think your imagination disappeared at all. I think sometimes it just needs a little room to come out and play—to explore with curiosity and wonder, with no judgment.
And that is one of my favorite things about creative workshops.
Forget Perfect. Let’s Experiment.
One of the quickest ways to quiet creativity is to worry about making something “good.”
In my workshops, we work the other way around. Process over perfection. Always.
Try the color. Make the mark. Add some water. Make a mess. See what happens.
Watercolor is especially wonderful for this because it has a mind of its own. Colors run together. Water travels somewhere you weren’t expecting. A funny little mark appears.
Is it a mistake? Nope. It’s an invitation. A messy line is just fine.
What could that mark become? What happens if you add another line? Or turn the paper around?
That’s imagination at work.
Sometimes We Just Need a Place to Start
A blank piece of paper can be intimidating—even for me!
That’s why in my workshops we often begin with a simple prompt and/or a little structure for whatever we’re creating. It might be a word, a color, a feeling, a shape, a piece of nature, or even a question.
It simply gives us somewhere to begin.
After that? You get to take it wherever you want.
It is always fun to see ten people begin with the exact same prompt and create ten completely different pieces.
Which brings me to another thing I LOVE about workshops...
Creativity Loves Company
There is something wonderful about sitting around a table creating together.
Someone tries a color you never would have chosen. Someone makes a mark that gives you an idea. Someone laughs because their paint just did something completely unexpected.
And slowly we begin to realize:
There really isn’t one “right” way to be creative.
We inspire each other simply by being together.
And no—you absolutely do NOT need to be an artist to join in.
Your Imagination Needs a Little Breathing Room
Most days our brains are busy doing.
Emails. Lists. Appointments. Errands. Decisions. Phones.
Creativity asks us to do something different.
It asks us to slow down long enough to notice.
To wonder.
To play.
To follow an idea without knowing exactly where it’s going.
For a couple of hours, you get to put the rest of life aside and simply MAKE.
And sometimes that little creative pause is exactly what our imagination has been waiting for.
Come Create with Me
Come join our wonderful little creative community—a place to slow down, make a mess, laugh, explore, and see what happens.
No experience needed. No perfection expected. Just bring yourself and a little curiosity.
Your imagination is still in there.
Let’s give it some room to play.
