Gratitude

Meet some of The Boos' Blob Zoo!

Life's journey has been particularly challenging lately, but amidst the struggles, I've been fortunate to experience two incredibly positive and wonderful moments in the past couple of days.

Let me begin by sharing my recent experience facilitating a workshop at The Annapolis Wellness House titled "Rinse Your Mind and Relax with Creativity." In this session, I introduced participants to my new favorite painting method - blob painting. The aim of these workshops is to create a space where each individual can unwind, quiet their mind, and tap into a state of creative flow. By the end of the session, participants leave with a small yet meaningful piece of artwork, infused with their own personal affirmations and featuring a delightful "blob" creature. It's both a privilege and a joy for me to provide this sanctuary of tranquility, especially in a world that often feels fragile and unstable. Witnessing each participant's genuine delight and elevated spirits, coupled with their eagerness to continue creating at home, fills my heart with gratitude and happiness.

A personal highlight for me during the workshop was when I asked my eleven participants two simple questions: "Did you have fun?" and "Do you feel better than when we started?" The resounding "yes" responses and the heartfelt sincerity in their voices left me feeling both exhilarated and deeply fulfilled. Smiles and hugs as they left felt really good too!

Another passion of mine, as many of you know, is my Cancer Courage Card Deck. Originally crafted as a personal coping mechanism during my own cancer journey, this deck has evolved into a profound source of support and authenticity for many others touched by cancer. Each card embodies an insight into my journey, encapsulated through artwork and words. Just the other evening, a new friend shared with me how the deck has been an invaluable source of strength for a loved one she gifted it. This individual who received the gift now incorporates the cards into her daily routine, drawing strength and solace from the images and words as she fights her own cancer battle. Hearing such stories fills me with immense pride and gratitude.

In fact, my friend Emily was so moved by the deck's impact that she recently purchased another one for a friend who is on a healing journey down in "the islands!" (Wow, who would thought I could say I'm now international! - LOL.)  It's moments like these that make me feel honored. Knowing that my artwork is making a difference in someone else's life is truly humbling.

I find immense joy and purpose in these small moments of connection and validation. Despite the challenges, I am reminded of art and creativity's profound impact on healing and resilience. Here's to embracing the small joys and finding light amidst the darkness.
