August & a summer reflection

The Golden Glow of August:

June and July have slipped by, and now summer is in its full, blazing glory. The air feels thick—the kind that slows everything down, as if even time itself needs an ice‑cold lemonade and a moment to rest.

Yet August always feels like a turning point. There’s a subtle shift in the air, a quiet whisper that summer is beginning to wane. Back‑to‑school ads pop up, a few leaves curl and brown at the edges, and the cicadas buzz so loudly that I wonder if they know their season is nearly done.

I always feel a mix of emotions this time of year. Part of me longs for cooler mornings, cozy sweaters, and steaming mugs of tea—especially after those relentless 100‑degree days. But alongside that relief is a bittersweet pang.

Soon, warm breezes, Dad’s 100th birthday (!), evenings on the patio among the flowers, swimming, and stolen moments of rest—just staring out at the world—will become memories. I’ll miss them, forgive the horrible heat, and find myself already wondering what’s next, what’s to come.

August is an in‑between place: both the height of summer and the start of its gentle goodbye. It’s a nudge to notice what’s here now, to savor it before it slips away. Eat the peaches while they’re still juicy. Let the watermelon drip wherever it pleases. Jump into the pool one more time. Watch the late‑summer sunset paint the sky and the creek.

Because these are the moments that truly define summer to me—the fleeting everyday magic that turns into memory.

As the season edges toward its end, I’m holding tight to the small rituals that make it sweet: iced tea, stargazing on warm nights, and stolen hours of unhurried afternoons.

What about you—how are you soaking up these final golden days of summer? What's your summer reflection?
